Tengboche Porter

Description
A female porter, carrying a heavy load near the Tengboche Monastery in the Everest Region of the Nepalese Himalayas, often treks in husband and wife teams. They are known for carrying loads amounting to 93 percent and 66 percent of their body weights, respectively, for weeks at a time, navigating steep inclines at high altitudes. Studies have shown that these porters are among the most efficient in the world, consuming less energy per kilogram than a standard backpacker who carries about half the same weight. They transport their loads in a Doko, an oversized basket that rests against the back, with most of the weight supported on the crown of the head through a strap running from the head underneath the Doko. Taken on Fuji Velvia slide film in 2004. Two decades later, this digitally remastered version is the result of scanning the original slide and applying modern AI sharpening tools.
