Kala Patthar

Description
Frozen prayer flags adorn the pre-dawn summit of Kala Patthar. I hiked up to 5,643m (18,514ft) in the dark with a head torch for three consecutive mornings to capture this shot. At an elevation of 5,500m, there is approximately 50% of the oxygen available compared to sea level. Kala Patthar is located near the base of Mount Pumori in the Nepalese Himalayas. This image was taken on Fuji Velvia slide film in 2004. Two decades later, the digitally remastered version is the result of scanning the original slide and applying modern AI sharpening tools.
